The resort operates with a minimalist approach—just one ropeway lift servicing 8 marked runs between 660m and 1,324m elevation. However, this simplicity belies Hakkoda's true appeal: it's primarily a destination for advanced skiers and snowboarders seeking deep powder experiences and extensive backcountry terrain in the volcanic Hakkoda Mountains.

What makes Hakkoda truly unique is the legendary "snow monsters" (juhyo)—trees completely encased in frozen snow and ice—that create an otherworldly landscape.
